Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction and demands on attestation. Health and disease from the bio-psycho-social and spiritual point of view. International documents. 2. Introduction to psychology of health and disease - stress, frustration and burnout, life situations and coping, mental health and mental hygiene. Prevention and secondary prevention. 3. Chronic disease and health disability as psychological and social phenomenon. Subjective point of view. Somatic symptoms and their subjective meaning. Strategies of coping with disease. Self-viewing and self-evaluating. The role of the ill in the society. 4. Chronic disease and health disability in childhood from the psychological and social point of view. Picturing and experiencing disease and health disability by the ill and by the family and friends, community. Changes in teenage age. 5. Chronic disease and health disability in adult age from the psychological and social point of view. Reaching and maintaining the autarchy, compensation through technological and compensation aids, rebuilding the house or flat. Family of the ill, partnership, parenthood. Employment, professional role. Sport and other free time activities. 6. Chronic disease and health disability in senior age and somatic/chronic disease in the senior age. Experiencing the disease and coping with it. Social position of the ill seniors. Thanatology, palliative care, hospice care, euthanasia. 7. Psychological and social consequences of particular disabilities and illnesses e.g. DMO, DM, ADHD, epilepsy, sense disabilities, psychic disease. Psychosomatic diseases. Seminars: 1. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: health and disease from the bio-psycho-social and spiritual point of view. Testing the functions and quality of life. 2. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: stress, frustration, burnout. Preventive programme. Mental health and its protection. 3. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: chronic disease and helath disability as psychological and social problem. Communication with the disabled. 4. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: chronic disease and health disability in childhood from the psychological and social point of view. 5. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: chronic disease and health disability in adult age from the psychological and social point of view. Free time activities project. 6. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: social role and position of the ill seniors. Thanatology, palliative care, hospice care, euthanasia. 7. Students presentations and following reflective discussion of the topic: psychosomatic diseases. Case studies of the clients.

Learning outcomes
Students in this discipline learn the psychic and social consequences of health disabilities and (chronic) disease. The main emphasis is on the issues coming out of the changes of social position of people with health disabilities and disease. The course shows that disabilities and diseases are viewed different ways from the people with disabilities and diseases and from their family members. Disabilities and (chronic) diseases are described deferent in different periods of life. Students learn about psycho hygiene and burn out syndrome.
