Course content
1. General and theoretical sources of Romany studies 2. Social structure of Romany community 3. Family cohabitation - traditional Romany family 4. Current issues of Romany ethnic 5. Social work methods and techniques towards Romany minority 6. Romany organizations, activities and associations. Government and non government organizations helping Romany minority

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
  • Class attendance - 8 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 22 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
General and theoretical sources of Romany studies (terminology; origin of the Romany; traditional Hind society and its structure in relation to traditional Romany society structure; Romany in Europe - brief historical review; Romany history in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) region; Slovak Romany, Romanian Romany). Social structure of Romany community. Elementary ethical norms and models of normative behavior. Family cohabitation - traditional Romany family (functions, roles and position of each member; position of women, children, elderly and wanting; Romany solidarity). Current issues of Romany ethnic (key documents and institutional security of Romany issues; Romany education; language education, changes in Romany language and its usage options; social status of Romany - housing and employment, health care. Romany culture, periodicals, literature. Social work methods and techniques towards Romany minority. Romany organizations, activities and associations. Government and non government organizations helping Romany minority.

Social issues and consecutive knowledge gained through the educational background.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis

To gain the credit students must join the seminar and write a semestral thesis. Other demands are specified by the lecturer.
