Course content
1. The origin and brief history of victimology 2. Classification of victims, the role of victim in the offender´s motivation; victim in the interaction with police, court, and so on. Working with the victims of sexual or violent crimes. Specific groups of victims and working with them 3. Victimizing factors, victimization 4. Experiencing harm, post-traumatic stress disorder 5. Science of victims in penitentiary care 6. Policeman/woman, guard in prison, social worker and other professionals as victims in relation to their occupation 7. Selected principles of communication with a victim

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
Students will learn about victimology and its position in the system of sciences; they will understand the relation between victimology and other disciplines including social work or penitentiary and post-penitentiary care; they will understand the subject and object of the research in victimology. Students will be able to use this knowledge in the practice and test this ability during seminars when working on practical issues.

Social issues and consecutive knowledge gained through the educational background.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis

To gain the credit students write a semestral thesis. Students follow the instructions of the lecturer, they follow the instruction of lenght, topic and content. The thesis must show the knowledge students master through their study hours. The thesis must be accepted by the lecturer, so the student can enter the exam. Examination conditions are set by the lecturer.
