Course content
Seminars: 1. Legal aspects of first aid. General first aid procedure. Mass occurrence of the wounded persons. 2. First aid in the event of sudden circulatory arrest, including the use of an AED. 3. Shock and shock states. 4. Practical training of basic emergency resuscitation, use of AED in resuscitation, stopping of massive bleeding (pressure bandage, application of tourniquet). 5. First aid for injuries (from head to toe). 6. First aid in case of heat and cold damage. 7. First aid for poisoning. 8. Practical training in the treatment of selected injuries, bandage application technique. 9. First aid for non-traumatic conditions of adults and children. 10. Loss of consciousness. 11. Positioning of wounded persons. 12. First aid kit. 13. Protection of the population during emergencies. Mass occurrence of the wounded persons. 14. Credit session.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Demonstration, Motoric and practical working skills training
  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 60 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the principles and techniques of solving a general life or health-threatening emergencies. Attention is also paid to the issue of protection of the population in emergencies and legal liability of first aid providing.
Students acquire professional skills to provide first aid.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis, Test

Course credit requirements: Active participation at the seminars (75 % attendance), mastering the theory and basic techniques of first aid. Test and solving a model situation.
