Course content
Lectures and seminars: 1. Athlete personality. Possibilities of looking at an individual's personality within the framework of sports psychology. Self-knowledge. 2. Structure and dynamics of personality. Approaches for working with athletes in the development of their personality - focus on performance improvement and personality maturation. Communication. Coach's personality. 3. Developmental periods in sports children. Working with talent. Male and female sport model. 4. Mental resilience: Work with stress, anxiety, wound, mistake, failure. Building of the total resilience/resistance and self-discipline. Cultivation of emotional intelligence. The influence of emotions on health, psychosomatics. 5. Self-confidence and leadership: The building of winning mentality, the power of mind in an individual and group. 6. Effective communication and the rules of collaboration: Sharing information in a triad - sportsman, family, trainer. 7. Coaching as an effective tool of development: Model GROW, coaching as an approach/dialogue/support of natural learning, principles and process of coaching, correct selection of questions for the management of the process of change. 8. The profile of a sportsman and their plan of development: Inner motivation, strong points, reflection, action plan and work with aims, action plan of change, feedback. 9. The selected techniques and skills of sport psychology and coaching: Pre-competition states, relaxation and anti-stress techniques - breathing training, Jacobson's training, autonomous training, visualization, focusing. 10. The selected techniques and skills of sport psychology and coaching: inner game, flow, race concentration - polarization of attention. 11. Psychophysiology in practice: Tools and applications measuring psychophysiological variables thanks to instruments: bio/neurofeedback/biological feedback. 12. Race routine and habits for optimal performance: Protocol and tools of optimal performance of professionals. 13. Group dynamics and cohesion of groups: Coaching of groups, of cohesion, roles, tasks and responsibilities of players. 14. A holistic approach to health and sustainable performance. The quality of nutrition and its effect on overall mental, emotional and cognitive sustainable performance. Influence of emotions on health, psychosomatics. The influence of the quality of regeneration and sleep on overall mental, emotional and cognitive performance.

Written assignment presentation and defence, Lecture, Practicum, Students' portfolio
  • Class attendance - 42 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report) - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to inform students in terms of the field of psychology of sport and health (particularly mental health) and its utilizability in practice. Subject will support their own motivation to work on themselves in terms of both sport and study.
After passing the subject, students should be able to individually speak about all topics that are covered in it, understand the connections and the influence on the connection between physical body and mental processes. Also, they will obtain the rudiments of the practice of mental coaching of sportsmen.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Course credit requirements: Active participation during the lessons, creation of protocols and their presentation, practical skill of coaching (conduction of a motivational interview with a sportsman). Examination requirements: Written test.
