Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction, course tasks and aims, credit requirements, the concept of sport climbing and its history. 2. Competitive climbing - history, system of races, disciplines, classification table of classes (difficulty levels), climbing styles. 3. Bouldering - rules, specifics, involvement of muscle groups, the most common injuries. 4. Bouldering - video demonstrations. 5. Lead climbing - rules, specifics, climbing terminology (partner-check etc.), biomechanics. 6. Lead climbing - video demonstration, the most common safety mistakes on climbing walls. 7. Credit test. Seminar: 1. Bouldering - credit requirements, basic aspects of healthy and effective movement, rebounds, basic climbing positions and moves from them. 2. Bouldering - no hand rest, climbing in a laid and vertical profile, types of holds, types of grips. 3. Bouldering - climbing in an overhanging profile, dynamic movement and jumps. 4. Bouldering - designing boulders, climbing and correcting mistakes. 5. Bouldering - specific and non-specific means and their use in practice, bouldering games. 6. Climbing - cooperation of climber and belayer - communication, basics of protection, tie up, swinging. 7. Climbing - swinging, rope rebounds (TR), protection (TR). 8. Climbing - speed climbing. 9. Climbing -climbing routes, quickdraw manipulation. 10. Climbing - route-stepping. 11. Bouldering - skills training. 12. Credit session and training on the wall. 13. Credit session and bouldering training. 14. Credit session.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Motoric and practical working skills training, Lecture, Practicum
  • Class attendance - 42 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 45 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course is focused on acquainting students with bouldering (development of movement skills and abilities) and with climbing on a wall (acquisition of skills of a climber and belayer).
Graduates of the course will be able to independently visit climbing centres and use the knowledge in their practice.
Prerequisites
Elementary movement skills corresponding to the age characteristics of the student.

Assessment methods and criteria
Practical demonstration of acquired skills

Course credit requirements: Active participation (75% attendance), practical mastery of basic bouldering skills, climbing difficulty 5c (TR), credit test.
