The course "Nanocomposite membranes" is focused on the application of composite nanomaterial membranes in water separation processes. The course focuses on the following topics: - Definition, history and classification - Target areas for the development of nanotechnologies for water treatment and desalination - Material advances in membranes for microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO). - Thin-film nanocomposite membranes for water desalination (fabrication and characterization of inorganic fillers, membranes, interfacial polymerization and interfacial polymerization with inorganic fillers) - Application of ceramic membranes in water treatment (preparation of membranes, extrusion, sol-gel process, surface and seawater treatment with ceramics) - Destruction of organic matter in water by iron nanoparticles (nanoparticles as catalysts, colloidal nanoparticles, advanced oxidation processes, zero-valent iron, bimetallic nanoparticles) - Mesoporous materials for water treatment (adsorption of heavy metal ions, anions and organic pollutants, multifunctional modification of sorbents, photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants) - Nanocomposites based on carbon nanotubes, graphene and nanocellulose - Organic-metal nanocomposites for enhanced adsorption of contaminants - Sorbents for the capture of pollutants - Control and mitigation of biological pollution, organic pollution, colloidal pollution and scale deposition - Advantages and disadvantages of using nanomaterials in our everyday life
