Course content

Lecture: 1. Basic terms, type classification. 2. Type features, selection of type. 3. Aesthetical principles of typesetting - relationship, alignment, repeating, contrast. 4. Rules of Czech typesetting. 5. Structure of document and book. 6. Typesetting algorithms, TeX program. 7. Grid and arrangement of typeseting. Practice: 1. Typographic software, TeX, LaTeX. 2. Working with type, environments, lists. 3. Classes and packages, text structuring. 4. Tables. 5. References, index. 6. Mathematical formulas. 7. User defined commands and environments.

Learning outcomes
|
Introduction into the computer typesetting. Font, its properties, terminology and classification. Basic typographical rules. Structure and partitioning of documents. Document parts and rules for their typesetting. Table of contents, idex. Font usage in the documents. Typesetting of the usual and less frequent elements of text. Page and its parts. During the practice the students typeset various documents in the LaTeX system.
Students learn the principles and basic rules of typesetting. They excercise the knowledge using LaTeX typografic software.

Requirements for getting a credit are activity at the practicals /seminars and successful passing the tests.
