Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Practicum
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire and extend the knowledge of physical and metallurgical basics of heat treatment, especially steels, cast iron and non-ferrous alloys. Students will deepen their knowledge of diffusion processes in heat treatment and get an overview of various types of heat treatment, such as annealing, quenching, tempering, hardening, aging etc. In addition, the chemical-thermal treatment, thermomechanical treatment and surface heat treatment will be also explain.
Orientation obtaining in fields of: physical metallurgy basic of heat treatment, diffusion processes in heat treatment, types of annealing, quenching, tempering, aging, thermomechanical treatment, chemical-thermal treatment and surface heat treatment.
Prerequisites
basic knowledge of material science (crystal structure of metals, defects of crystal lattices, properties of materials and their testing, equilibrium binary diagrams, Fe-C diagrams, fundamentals of phase transformations of solid steels, fundamentals of heat and chemical-heat treatment)

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination

Credit: attendance ? max. 2 absences, passing the tests. Exam: written and oral - demonstration of knowledge of the topics, participation in the exam is conditioned by obtaining credit
