Course content

Lectures: 1. Introduction to measurement. Measurement definition and tasks. Metrology basics, physical units. The importance of measurement in medicine. 2. Measurement methods. Additive, multiplicative and quantizing errors. Measurement uncertainties. Amplitude, zero, resonance, comparative, substitution and differential methods. 3. Balanced and unbalanced impedance bridge, balance condition, bridge sensitivity. 4. Electro-mechanical measuring instruments, static and dynamic properties. Basic types of electro-mechanical instruments. 5. Electronic measuring instruments elements and circuits. Operational amplifiers. Measuring amplifiers. Analog comparator. 6. Analog switches and multiplexers. Sampling circuits. AD and DA converters. Electric filters. 7. Digital measurement of voltages currents and resistances. Digital multi-meters. 8. Oscilloscope measurements. Analog and digital scopes. 9. Impedance and admittance measurement. 10. Basic oscillators. Analog signals generators. Function generators. Arbitrary signal generators. 11. Digital tume and frequency measurement. Universals counters. 12. Spectral analysis of periodical signals. Spectral analyzers. 13. Physical quantities Transducers. Electrical measurement of non- electric variables. 14. Software. Measurement results processing. Practice: Individual lectured themes will be practiced at laboratory practising.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject represents the introduction to electric and non-electric measurement. Students familiarize with basic measurement methods and with electric and electronic measurement instruments design and will learn to measure physical quantities in medicine.
By the subject graduating, the students will familiar with measurement methods and instruments.

Basic knowledge from physics, electrotechnics and electronics.

The conditions for exam passing are receiving inclusion and good knowledge of lectured themes.
