Course content
Lectures: 1. Matter - properties and forms of existence. Dualistic character of matter. The basic structural particles of matter. Mass, quantity and composition of substances. 2. The structure of the atom. Stability of the atomic nucleus. Radioactivity, nuclear reactions. 3. The electron shell. Wave-mechanical model of the atom. Construction of the electron shell. 4. Relationship between the properties of elements and the structure of the electron shell. Periodic system of elements. 5. Chemical bonding. Development of theories of chemical bonding. Wave-mechanical interpretation of chemical bonding. 6. Non-bonding interactions. Relationships between the structure of substances and their properties. 7. Chemical reactions - classification according to selected criteria. Kinetics of chemical reactions. Factors affecting the rate of chemical reactions. 8. Chemical equilibrium. Principle of mobile equilibrium. 9. Theory of acids and bases. Amphoteric electrolytes. Autoprotolysis of water. 10. Equilibria in electrolyte solutions. Measurement and calculation of pH. 11. Hydrolysis of salts. Buffers. pH indicators. 12. Group states - characteristics, group transformations. Ideal gas. The most important properties of liquids. Internal structure of solids. 13. Dispersion systems - classification. Introduction to colloid chemistry. 14. Coordination compounds. Supramolecular structures. Exercises: build on the material presented.

Learning outcomes
Theoretical subject focused on the acquisition of basic chemical concepts and general laws that apply in all chemical disciplines. Theory of chemical bonding, connections between the structure of substances and their properties. State states and systems of substances. Basic types of reactions, rate and balance of chemical reactions, equilibria in electrolyte solutions. Introduction to colloid chemistry and supramolecular structures. Exercises include chemical calculations, nomenclature of inorganic chemistry, an overview of the properties and basic reactions of metals and non-metallic elements.
To explain and deduce basic knowledge on field, including simpler problem solving. To work practically and safely in chemistry lab.

knowledge of high school chemistry

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination

credit - active participation in exercises (continuous tests), credit test, active performance of tasks during lectures (min. 50% success rate in total)
