Course content
Lectures: 1. The turning point in tradition, the consequences of the French Revolution, the period of Napoleon's empire, Biedermeier. 2. Romanticism and returns to history. 3. Penetration of realistic elements into romantic art. 4. Barbizon School and its influence on further art development, realism. 5. Impressionism and its main representatives; technical news, Japan's influence on European art. 6. Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Arts and Crafts Movement. 7. Secession. 8. Changes of clothing during the 19th century. 8. The advent of modern art (expressionism, abstraction, fauvism, cubism). 9. The influence of Bauhaus and his teachers on modern art, the interwar avant-garde. 10. Surrealism. 11. Art after World War II, mutual influence of the USA and Europe on the development of artistic trends and styles from abstraction to new figuration. 12. Action painting, geometric abstraction, neoconstructivism, op-art, pop art, informel. 13. Minimalism, conceptual art, happening, body-art, performance, video-art. 14. Changes in fashion during the 20th century. Seminars: Preparation of a presentation and presentation of a paper on a given topic.

History of European fine art and clothing (part 2) from the beginning of the 19th century to the present.

Knowledge acquired in the course History of Art and Clothing 1 (KDE/DVO1).

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Oral presentation of self-study

Visiting exhibitions, studying literature, consulting. Credit: active participation in seminars, writing an essay on a given topic. Exam: oral, defense of semestral work.
