Course content
Lectures part 1: 1. Traditions of Czechoslovak glassmaking from the first half of the 20th century as a basis for inspiring development after World War II. 2. Czechoslovak glass at foreign exhibitions after 1948 (Milan trienale 1957 and 1960, EXPO ´58). 3. Exhibition of Czechoslovak glass in Moscow 1959 and its consequences. 4. The schools of Stanislav Libenský at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and Václav Cigler at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Bratislava. 5. Origin of the phenomenon of Czechoslovak authorship, exhibitions and international symposia. 6. Czechoslovak modern glass and architecture. 7. Contemporary Czech glass and design. Exercises: Presentation on a given topic, accompanying discussion. Lectures (topics) and literature Part 2: 1. Czech textile production in the context of the development of Czechoslovak textile production 1945 - 1990. 2. Czech textile creation in the context of the development of Czechoslovak (Czech) textile production after 1990. 3. Czech post-war art education connected with textile creation (and production). 4. Important textile artists and creation and production in the Czech lands after the Second World War (artists, tapestry manufactories, cooperatives, production companies?). 5. Czech post-war organizations and institutions and textile creation (eg Textile Creation, ÚBOK, ÚLUV, ÚUŘ, Design Center of the Czech Republic, Design Cabinet CZ, Czechdesign?) and groups and associations of textile artists (Group 7, Žararaka, Association of Textile Artists?). 6. Significant post-war domestic, international and world exhibitions dedicated to applied art (results of textile creation and production) with the participation of Czech textile artists. 7. Memory institutions in the Czech Republic and textile creation and production. Exercises: Monitoring of current events in the field, presentations on a given (selected) topic, discussions on events in the field and on the topics of presentations. Learning outcomes
Part 1: Teaching is focused on the specific character of the development of Czech glassmaking in the second half of the 20th century with an emphasis on its importance for changing the view of the possibilities of artistic use of glass today. Part 2: The course is devoted to an overview of the development of Czechoslovak (Czech) post-war textile production in the context of the development of Czechoslovak (Czech) textile production and European textile art. Attention in it belongs to the interaction between textile production and textile artists, their groups and associations, textile art schools and organizations, institutions. Teaching is also focused on the presentation of the results of the work of textile artists, manufactories, cooperatives, manufacturing companies at domestic and foreign exhibition shows. The representation of Czechoslovak (Czech) textile creation and their results in the activities and collections of memory institutions in the Czech Republic is also discussed.
Ability to process, present and defend a given topic.

Completion of the subject Contemporary Art and Design 1 (KDE/SD1).

Written exam, Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment

Credit: participation in exercises, elaboration of a semester work on a given topic. Exam: written, defense of semester work, presentation.
