Course content
Lectures: 1.First World Exhibition in London (1851). Industrialization and its influence on the development of crafts. 2. Arts and Crafts Movement. 3. G. Semper and his ideas about the necessity of education for new tastes through art museums and schools. The accent on the correspondence of purpose, design, material and decor of objects. 4. Vision of a New Concept of Applied Art in the Imagination of Modern Architecture Personalities (Wagner, van de Velde, Loos, Altenberg, Le Corbusier). 5. Promoting a new perspective on the visual concept of utility objects in the Czech environment in the first half of the 20th century (School of Applied Arts, Artěl, Union of Czechoslovak Works, Krásná jizba, UP závody in Brno). 6. Czechoslovak participation at the EXPO ´58 World Exhibition, "Brussels Style"; Institute of Housing and Clothing Culture. 7. Definition of terms art craft, applied art, industrial design, design. 8. Modern and modern Czech glassmaking in the context of foreign development. 9. Modern and modern Czech jewelery in the context of foreign development. 10. The phenomenon of Jablonec jewelery before and today. 11. Modern and modern Czech textile production in the context of foreign development. 12. Modern and modern works in the fields of ceramics and porcelain in the context of foreign development. 13. Modern and modern works in the field of applied graphics and photography in the context of foreign development. 14. Contemporary Czech creative work and design. Seminars: Execises: Preparation of a presentation and presentation of a paper on a given topic.

Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Seminár, Students' self-study

Learning outcomes
Czech Arts and design, trends of 20. century (textile crafts, fashion design, glass, ceramics, porcelain, juwelies, grafic) with program on authors creation and industry design. Exhibitions activities.

Knowledge of the subject matter of History of Art and Clothing Culture (KDE/DOV1,2).

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Presentation of acquired knowledge via paper

Credit: participation in seminars, elaboration of an essay on a given topic. Exam: oral, defense of semestral work.
