Course content
|
Lectures: 1. Concepts of design, decor, motif, design, ornament; examples of changes in ornament patterns and tread patterns in historical, cultural and social context. 2. - 3. Historical overview of decorative motifs - prehistory, antiquity, modern times until the end of the 19th century. 4. Historical overview of motifs used in applied art - 20th century. and the present. 5. Decor and its basic elements; focus on shapes, forms, textures and colors. 6. Specifics of textile patterning; raporting as a way to enrich tread variations. 7. Stripes; historical context, modifications. 8. Dot; historical context, modifications. 9. Pomegranate; historical context, modifications. 10. Cashmere pattern; historical context, modifications. 11. Folklorism; national symbols in decor and tread; historical context, modifications. 12. Camouflage patterns, mimicry, covering; historical context, modifications. 13. Childish style and its modifications; cultural and social context. 14. Sports and trade marks; cultural and social context. Exercises: Within the subject, the student elaborates a given topic.

Learning outcomes
|
History of decor and design. Patterning textiles in historical, cultural and social contexts. Themes of textile patterns during stylistic periods and its reflection in contemporary cultural world.
