Formation and influence of knitted structure.. Properties of knitwears (geometric, deformation, utility). 3. Technological principles of weft knitting patterning. Basic structures. Designing patterns 4. Impact of material, technology, color and art elements on knitting patterning. 5.- 8. Single face and rib structure and patterns according to the structural elements used (with a full number of stitches, missing stitches, tuck loop, supplementary threads, and with the change of position or structure of the binding element). 9.- 10. Color and plastic pattern of weft knitting. Possibilities of binding pattern of weft knitting. Overview of patterns. Influence (impact) of material and technology. 11. Links-links and interlock structure. Patterning, properties and application in clothing. 12. Knitted structures for technological purposes (functions). Flat and spatial shaping knitwear. 13. Structure of warp knitted fabric. Patterning warp knitted fabric. Application of knitwear for technical, interior and clothing purposes. 14. Possibilities of designing knitted fabrics using CAD systems for designer needs. Excercises: 1.- 2. Basic structural parameters of knitted fabric for the needs of the designer. Ways to write (patronize) knits. Binding of basic knit structure. 3. - 4. Knitting on knitting machines, mechanisms impacting knitting, principle of knitting. 5. Technological possibilities of creating solid beginnings single face and rib structure, practical demonstrations, evaluation of appearance and properties. 6. Shaping of knitted fabrics, possibilities and ways of flat and spatial shaping. Calculations, design and fabrication of single face knittwear. 7. Design and analysis of knitting bindings. Differences in basic and jacquard patterns. 8. Technological possibilities of patterning on flat knitting machine, group choice of knitting needles, practical examples. 9. Creation of binding patterns with permanently discarded needle, with interrupted and limited needle activity, examples of knits, practical examples. 10. Color patterning, possibilities, usage, examples of knitted fabrics and practical demonstration of design and making of jacquard binding. 11. - 12. Creation of binding patterns with transfer of binding elements, with needle bed shifts, examples of knitted fabrics, practical examples. 13. Programming patterns on CAD system by Shima Seiki, creating samples on machine. 14. Credit test, credit semester work. Part of the course is individual work of students on knitting machines and elaboration of five semester tasks (continuously).

  • Semestral paper - 40 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 48 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Design of knitted fabric, structure of knitted fabric, basic binding elements. Properties of knitted fabrics and their influence. The principle of designing knitted patterns and products. Patterning of knitted fabrics, technological possibilities of patterning. Using CAD systems to create a knitted pattern.
Students will improve their knowlegede of kniting fabrics and patterning. They are able to create own knitting design.
Prerequisites
Orientation in basic of knitting concepts.
