Learning outcomes
|
The course has two major objectives: first, to acquaint students with theoretical framework of the study of ethnic, cultural and religious minorities, second, to familiarize them with selected ethnic, cultural and religious minorities in the Czech Republic and in the wider European context. The course will be divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, attention will be paid to key theoretical concepts (culture, identity, ethnicity and ethnic group, nationalism and nation, race and racism, basic models of interethnic and intercultural coexistence). In the descriptive part, sudents will be familiarzed with the Jewish, Roma, Vietnamese and Muslim minorities in the Czech Republic and in Europe.
