Course content
- Thermal-comfort parameters of clothing. - Basic knowledge about transfer of fluids. Bernoulli equation. - Principles of steady - state transfer of heat by conduction, convection and radiation. - Thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, thermal diffusivity. Porosity and its influence on these parameters. - Heat transfer coefficient, boundary layer. Boundary conditions in heat and moisture transfer. - Principle of similarity and dimensionless numbers used for solution of heat and moisture transfer - Fourier´s equation of transient heat conduction and its solution of an endless slab by means of the separation of variables - Emission properties of materials. Laws by Wien and Stephan - Boltzman for the radiation heat transfer. - Moisture transfer, Fick´s laws, wetting and capillary wicking - Instruments for the determination of transient and steady - state thermos-physical parameters of materials - Specific parameters of textile fabrics influencing their transfer properties. The effect of moisture on these properties.

Learning outcomes
The main aim of this subject is introduction and better understanding of students in the case of selected topics related to heat and mass transfer in porous media, basic functions of clothing and principles of steady-state of heat by conduction, convection and radiation.
The student will acquire detailed knowledge of the subject in the area according to the approval of the Branch Board

Oral exam

oral examination before a committee appointed by the Dean. Written work in the recommended range of 20 pages.
