Course content
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to models of general communication, with a focus on professional, academic, and interpersonal communication. Through practical examples, students will learn to search for information necessary for effective communication. They will acquire skills to prepare professional texts and oral presentations, and learn the principles of academic discussion. The course also covers corporate communication, including basic business communication, teamwork, and crisis communication. Lectures: 1. Forms of communication: Scientific, professional, and popular communication; oral and written forms; purpose of communication, audience, and presentation tools. 2. Information sources: Types of information sources, methods for searching professional information, scientific databases. 3. Research review: Definition and types of research reviews. 4. Copyright law: Overview of legal aspects related to intellectual property. 5. Standards for professional writing: Citation and bibliographic standards, examples of citations, copyright law. 6. Scientific written communication I: Types of written documents, structure of professional texts, principles of writing, formatting, common errors, proofreading, poster creation. 7. Scientific written communication II: Processing experimental data, creating graphs and tables, interpretation and commentary of results, formulating conclusions, considering methods and materials. 8. Professional communication: Preparing a curriculum vitae and principles of successful behavior during a job interview. 9. Academic ethics and the use of artificial intelligence: Principles of academic ethics, copyright, research integrity; ethical and legal aspects of using generative AI, proper citation, transparent disclosure, data protection, and responsible use of technological tools. 10 -11. Oral scientific communication: Verbal and non-verbal expression; presentation skills and effective delivery. 12 - 14. Student presentations: Practical examples of prepared professional topics. Exercises / Practical Sessions 1. Searching for professional articles. 2. Conducting a research review on a given topic. 3. Working with professional texts in a foreign language. 4. Applying standards in writing professional texts; creating citations. 5. Formatting professional texts: working with images, graphs, and tables. 6. Oral presentations. 7. Graded credit assessment.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic models of communication with a focus on professional, academic, and interpersonal communication. The course develops students' ability to search for, critically evaluate, and appropriately use information necessary for professional and scientific communication. Students will acquire fundamental skills in writing professional and academic texts and in preparing oral professional presentations. Attention is paid to the principles of academic discussion, citation practices, and the ethical use of information, including issues related to copyright. The course also introduces students to data processing, graphical representation of results, and effective presentation techniques. In addition, basic aspects of corporate and professional communication are addressed, including teamwork communication and preparation of a curriculum vitae and job interview.
The student is able to search for and evaluate professional information, write professional and scientific texts, process and visualize data, prepare and deliver professional presentations, and apply basic professional and teamwork communication skills.

Prerequisites

Basic computer literacy and fundamental skills in using common office productivity software for text processing, data handling, and presentation creation.

The graded credit is awarded based on the number of points earned from the continuous completion of assigned tasks and participation in exercises. The exact number of points required for each grade is determined by the instructor.
