Course content
Course program: 1. Introduction to image processing and analysis. Image sensing and acquisition, digital representation of images. Image sampling and quantization. Basic types of images. 2. Mathematical tools used in digital image processing. Basic intensity transformation function. Histogram equalization. 3. Fundamentals of spatial filtering. Spatial correlation and convolution. Smoothing spatial filters. 4. Using the second derivative for image sharpening - the Laplacian. Using first derivative for image sharpening - the Gradient. Sharpening spatial filters. 5. 2D Fourier transform. Filtering in the frequency domain. Relationship between the filtration in frequency and spatial domain. 6. Image restoration. Noise models. Filters for noise reduction. 7. Image segmentation. Thresolding. Hough transform. 8. Detection of isolated points, line detection and edge detection. Edge detectors. Region growing. 9. Morphological image processing. Dilation. Erosion. Morphological opening and closing. Basic morphological operations for binary images. The hit or miss transformation. 10. Representation and description of objects or regions of interest in images. Shape description of objects or regions of interest. 11. Texture analysis. Classification of textures. 12. Color image processing. Color models. Color transformation. Filtration of color images. 13. Using the tools of image processing for problem solution in textile engineering.
