Course content
|
Introduction - commonly used symbols and notation. Basic concepts of propositional logic. Sets of numbers. Mappings (Functions) - basic concepts (domain, codomain, injectivity, composition). Real functions and their properties (monotonicity, boundedness, parity, etc.). Inverse functions. Overview of basic elementary functions. Matrices - basic operations, determinant. Gaussian elimination, inverse matrix. Introduction to Data Analysis and Statistics. Measures of Location and Variability of Data. Graphical methods of data presentation. Probability - random variables and distributions, Gaussian distribution. Random sampling, estimation, confidence intervals. Hypothesis Testing - t-tests, nonparametric alternatives. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Correlation, testing dependence between variables. Linear Regression. Reserve.

Learning outcomes
|
Understanding of the fundamental concepts of real functions of one variable and their graphical interpretation. Ability to perform matrix operations and apply basic methods of linear algebra (determinant, inverse matrix, Gaussian elimination). Knowledge and application of basic statistical methods used in biological sciences (descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, correlation, regression). Ability to select and apply appropriate statistical methods for specific biological data and to interpret the results.

Prerequisites
|
Basic high school knowledge of mathematics (algebra, functions, basics of geometry). Basic computer skills.
