Lectures: A) Introduction to tissue engineering, cell biology, cell material interactions 1. Introduction to tissue engineering 2. Biomaterials 3. Cell structure and functions 4. Cell cultures 5. Blood cells and thein utilization in tissue engineering 6. Cell material interactions B) In vitro and in vivotesting of tissue engineering scaffolds 7. In vitro testing I 8. In vitro testing II 9. In vivo testing 10. Legislation of medical devices C) Applications of tissue engineering 11. Wound dressings 12. Synthetic vascular prosthesis 13. Materials for prevention of anastomotic leakage 14. Materials for glaucoma treatment Practical courses: 1. Optical microscopy, cell counting, subculturing. 2. Measurement of cell viability using metabolit tests, assessment of cytotoxicity. 3. In vitro testing of biomaterials I: Preparation of materials, sterilization and cell seeding. 4. In vitro testing II: Evaluation of cell proliferation on tested materials 1 week after cell seeding. 5. In vitro testing III: Evaluation of cell proliferation on tested materials 2 weeks after cell seeding. 6. In vitro testing IV: Microscopical analysis of seeded biomaterials. 7. Presentation of achieved results of in vitro testing.
