Lectures (topics): 1. Theory of Law - law, legal standards, legal sources 2. Constitutional Law - Constitutional Law, Constitution of the Czech Republic - Fundamental Rights and Basic Freedoms 3. European Union 4. Civil law - recodification of Private Law, transitional provisions of the new Civil Code - Private Law: definition, legal binding of legal standards, basic principles, legal elements - Persons: definition, a natural person, a legal person, a consumer, a businessman, a representation - Things: definition, classification, parts of a thing, accessories, securities - Absolute Rights: definition, Just in Re, Possession Law, Ownership, Concurrent Estate - Legal Interests: definition, Leasehold Estate, Real Burdens, Pledge, Lien - Property rights: definition, obligations, contracts, content of obligations, consumer contracts, mutual/ joined debts and receivables, changes in obligations, debt security - obligations of legal negotiations - obligations from tort and other legal reasons - the legal framework of civil aspects and commercial obligations prior the implementation of the new Civil Code.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to build students' awareness of law based on the knowledge of necessary legal concepts which are essential for understanding the law, its aim and its correct application in practice. Students will be able to understand the Czech law and work with legal standards.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme. Students will gain competence to apply knowledge from this course in the course Introduction to Law II, Topical law Issues, in practice, in bachelor thesis, in master thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
Written exam. Test of the subject content with a minimum of 60% success rate. Combined Studies: Exam: written. Test of the subject content with a minimum of 60% success rate. The student has to attend 50%. In case the student fails to do so, he / she will ask the lecturer to submit a seminar paper.Students prepare one seminar paper in the range of 5 A4 pages. The topic of the thesis will be determined individually after consultation with the student from the content of the subject with regard to his / her practice. The student submits the work during the semester. A debate on the work and its final evaluation will then take place. Without fulfilling the obligation the student cannot enroll and take the exam.
