Course content
Lectures 1.- 2. Definition of image, basic types of images and documents (layers), possibilities of image acquisition for image analysis NIS Elements. 3. Basic functions of the system of image analysis NIS Elements. 4.- 5. Principles of image scanning to the system of image analysis NIS Elements - scanning of individual images, scanning of ND2 (in time, in plane x, y and z), scanning to RAM 6.- 7. Color image - adjustment (LUTs and histogram) and possibilities of measurement in the system of image analysis NIS Elements. Image arithmetic with using of reference image. 8.- 9. Binary image - possibilities of its acquisition (threshold, subjective definition in binary image editor), multiple binary layers, bases of mathematical morphology. 10.- 11. Measurement in the system of image analysis NIS Elements - rough measurement, manual - interactive measurement, automatic measurement - object and textural, data presentation, ROI and measurement frame. 11.- 13. Possibilities of programming in the system of image analysis NIS Elements - principles of macro creation. 14. Report creation in the system of image analysis NIS Elements. Practices 1.- 2. Cross-sections of continual textile formations (cross-sections' scanning, calibration, measurement of their geometrical parameters wit using of image analysis NIS Elements) 3. - 4. Cross-sections of discrete textile formations (preparation of soft cross-sections, principle of direct method in the system of image analysis NIS Elements) 5. Processing of color image. 6. - 7. Diameter of linear textile formation (image sequence scanning, image segmentation, object measurement on binary image in the system of image analysis NIS Elements, macro creation). 8. - 9. Properties of areal textile formation (image scanning in passing through light, image segmentation - dynamical, object and textural measurement on binary image in the system of image analysis NIS Elements, macro creation). 10. - 11. Surface structure of linear textile formations (scanning by light microscope and macroscope, calibration, possibilities of usage of interactive measurement module in the system of image analysis NIS Elements). 12. - 13. Experimental determination of Poisson's ratio for various textile formations (connection between strength tester and image analysis NIS Elements). 14. Credit.

Learning outcomes
It is a course focused on image analysis system NIS Elements 2.3 and higher versions, and its using in evaluation of the parameters of textile assemblies. During lectures, students gain theoretical knowledge about the functions of image analysis, which they will practice and deepen during practices.
Students have both theoretical and practical knowledge about the functions of image analysis. They can use it for evaluation the parameters of textile asseblies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of textile structures.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Presentation of acquired knowledge via paper

Graded credit: developing protocols (reports) from each practice, the application of acquired knowledge in the assigned task, knowledge test at the end of the semester.
