Flat knitting machines (technical options). 3. Knitted fabrics constructions (single-jersey, double-jersey, purl). 4. Special technical binding of knitted fabrics. Creation and construction. 5. Patterns a construction of variants of tubular knitted structures. 6. Possibility of combination of single and double Jersey knitted pattern during patterning construction. 7. Construction of 2D and 3D shaped knitted products. Principle of shaping techniques and possibility. 8. 3D shape knitting techniques and applications on the knitted fabrics. 9. Sandwich (double/multilayer) knitted fabrics. 10. Suspended stitches - wedge technique. 11. 3D shaping technical knitted product. 12. Cut-out knitted fabrics, tubes and tubular connections. 13. Technique of gather knitting. Principle, possibility and realization. 14. Bind-off technique, principle and variants for flat and tubular product. Practices: 1. Properties of weft knitted fabric. Relationship between loop length and machine gauge. 2. Realization of single-jersey knitted fabrics - determination of dimensional changes after relaxation processes. 3. Realization of double-jersey and purl knitted fabrics - determination of dimensional changes after relaxation processes. 4. Design and realization of special patterns of knitted fabrics (separate course, welt, etc.), for a flat knitting machine. 5. - 8. Creation of shaped knitting sample (garment-length sequences) or sandwich fabric. Implementation with CAD programs. Checking and simulation process. Setting machine parameters and realization. 9. - 13. Creation of 3D shaped knitted products or making the sample with technique of gather knitting (with using bind-off technique). Implementation with CAD programs. Setting machine parameters and realization. 14. Presentation and defence of designed knitting samples (products).

  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 45 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Students learn in advanced techniques of weft knitting realized on V-bed rib flat machines with electronically controlled selection of the needles and get practical skills in the weft knitted design and creation of flat and spatially (2D and 3D) shaped closing and technical products by means of CAD programs.
Orientation in the production of knitting fabrics for clothing and technical applications. Specification and analysis of knitting structures, possibility of their production in the current portfolio of produced knitting machines. Characteristics and types of knitted fabrics, their applications and patterning possibilities, shaping (fashioning) and production of knitted goods.
