Course content
Courses: 1. Basics terms of knitting, knitting notations. 2. Weft knitted structures. 3. Knitted structures (special - fast starting courses, separating courses, structures for fabric shaping). 4. Warp knitted structures. 5. Properties and geometry of knitted fabrics. 6. Actions of knitting machines; formation of knitted, tuck and float stitches, loop transfer, needle transfer. 7. Knitting machines and technologies; working and programming mechanisms of flat and circular weft knitting machines. 8. Patterning of knitted fabrics (by needle selection and by yarn insertion, group and individual. 9. Large diameter knitting machine. 10. Warp knitting machines and principles, knitting mechanisms. 11. Patterning mechanisms of warp knitted machines. 12. Fashioning (2-D, 3-D) of knitted fabrics. 13. Preparation of material for knitting. 14. Systems of yarn supply and fabric take-off. Practices: A. Theoretical part - tasks on basic knitting principles, knitted structures, dimensional stability of knitted fabrics, shaping of knitted products. B. Practical part - working on hand knitting machines.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Demonstration, Project teaching, Laboratory work

Learning outcomes
Preparation of material for knitting. Basic terms in knitting. Knitted structures (weft, warp, special), properties and geometry of knitted fabrics. Knitting machines and weft and warp technologies. Working and programming mechanisms (patterning, machines control), shaping (fashioning) of knitted products. Systems of yarn supply and fabric take-off, other equipment.
Student is able to orientate in area of knitting.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of mathematics and mechanics. Knowledge within the scope of subject Textile technology 1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Student's performance analysis

Credit: Active participation in practices and lectures, elaboration and successful defense of all theoretical and practical task of the practice. Obtaining skills with handling of flat knitting machines, making a sample of special knitted fabrics according to the model. Passing of the credit test. Distance form: Active participation with the lecturer in the distance form within the assigned topics, elaboration of the assignment of the relevant topics assigned by the distance form. Submission of assignments and project work by the end of the semester according to the TUL schedule. Examination: written and oral.
