Presentation of acquired experience via portfolio
The student is always personally present during the defense of their work/artifact. This usually takes place on the TUL campus, but upon prior agreement, the committee may convene at an external location. The student is required to provide the committee (composed of heads of FUA studios, an external guest from the field of art, an art theorist, and possibly other expert consultants) with at least one printed copy of the written part of their bachelor thesis, including photographic documentation. The required contents of this document are described above. After a successful defense, the thesis is made publicly available for download in PDF format on the TUL website (the path to each PDF document is described in the Appendix - Selection of Bachelor Thesis Samples). The student presents and briefly (10-15 minutes) explains the key motivations and realization process behind their work. This may be supported by a visual presentation or done without it, with the student describing and demonstrating everything verbally next to their work. The thesis supervisor reads their evaluation and proposes a grade. During the professional discussion, committee members provide feedback and ask the student questions. At the end of the defense, the student is asked to leave the room so the committee can deliberate and agree on the final evaluation. The following criteria are assessed: - Choice of thesis topic. The written theoretical part is evaluated here, developed by the student in cooperation with the art theory department and any external consultants. It should explain the background and inspiration for the work (including its relevance, societal demand, authenticity, whether it proposes a new approach or cites previous ones, and the coherence between the conceptual and formal components of the final piece). - Technical execution, including the choice of materials, media, and technologies used in the design and realization. - Installation and installation context, including proportions and safety considerations. - Overall impression of the work as an autonomous artistic achievement by a graduating bachelor student. - The student's ability to respond to feedback and questions from the committee and to demonstrate understanding of the broader context of their work. The committee always strives to take into account the student's specific circumstances, their capabilities, and their overall academic performance throughout their studies.
