Course content
|
1. Aesthetics - characteristics, themes, issues 2. Rules and order in art, objective beauty 3. Modern analogies of the "aesthetics of reason" - non-psychological concepts of art, focus on the object, formal relationships, information aesthetics, code 4. Empiricism - from normative classicism to the question of taste and subjectivism 5. Contemporary approaches based on empirical research into aesthetic and artistic issues - experimental methods, cognitive science, neuroaesthetics 6. English aesthetics - aesthetic intuition and the problem of genius 7. Art and artificial intelligence - the question of machine creativity: can machines create art? "Perfection" and "genius" in a new form, or mediocrity and convention?

Learning outcomes
|
a) Philosophy: definition of philosophy, wisdom about the world, a form of life, professional study. Natural attitude and theoretical attitude: ontological, transcendental and empirical. Overview of topics: ontological difference, existence, world, corporeality, language. Overview of approaches: phenomenology, existentialism, hermeneutics, structuralism, poststructuralism and postmodernism, analytical philosophy, philosophy and theory of science. b) Aesthetics: subject and methods of aesthetics, aesthetic object and aesthetic experience, aesthetic categories, aesthetic judgment. c) Art history: exact science x interpretation, problem of historicity, autonomy, and heteronomy of art
To be aware of relations between art history and visual culture.

Prerequisites
|
- Interest in the theoretical and methodological foundations of artistic creation, particularly within aesthetics. - Ability to think critically about general principles and questions of the artistic process. - Willingness to analyze the relationship between historical ideas, concepts, and contemporary artistic practice. - Ability to reflect on the issues of the laws governing artworks, theories of creation, and empirical approaches. - Interest in exploring intuitive, imaginative, and creative aspects of artistic production. - Readiness to discuss and formulate personal perspectives on the nature of artworks and their perception.
