Course content
General - Introduction The relation between the society and the nature - the effect of human activities on the environment - the influence of the landscape on man - the importance of green vegetation and living organisms History Garden styles, structures, important persons I (beginnings - Renaissance) Garden styles, structures, important persons II (Renaissance - mid-20th century) Garden styles, structures, important persons III (the present times; combination of media) Reconstruction of parks and gardens - conservation Landscape Natural conditions and their effect; geo-botanics; green vegetation and water in a landscape Green vegetation (in a landscape; suburbian; urban; forests) Water (in a landscape; water areas; water streams; artificial pools; banks) Environmental protection and protection of landscape; the basic related legislation General description of the subject: Green Vegetation - Dendrology Dendrology I (coniferous trees and bushes) Dendrology II (deciduous trees and bushes) Dendrology III (lawns; replacement of lawns; perennial plants; grass; ferns) Dendrology IV (lines of trees along streets; hedges; climbing woody plants) Creation and maintenance; replanting grown-up trees; rehabilitation of woody plants Interior Green Vegetation The contents and scope of the stages of design documentation according to the Construction Act; analyses; researches; approvals. Dendrological researches into green vegetation and green vegetation inventories; assessment of green vegetation from the gardener's point of view Garden and park composition; purpose and function The lectures include outdoor examples and outdoor educational tours (for example, ZOO, botanical garden, the Sychrov chateau park, etc.).

Learning outcomes
The lectures, seminars, and educational excursions help students to learn about landscape design and protection, development of landscape and garden design, exterior and interior dendrology, compositional and technological principles of exterior development design (greenery, communication, facilities, utility lines), and with legislation. The topics are taught in blocks emphasizing environment protection, sustainable development, ethology and teamwork.
Ability to create architectonic design by environmental feeling of landscape, nature and greenery and saving biodiversity

Combined examination, Presentation of artistic and creative activities, Oral presentation of self-study

To receive credit, the student must comply with the following requirements: - a set of 25 drawings of real outdoor objects in the A4 format (20 exterior woody plants - the overall habitat, plus details, including identification of the species of the woody plant and its location; plus 5 interesting types of fence - the appearance of the fence basic element; a detailed view; general dimensions; material; and location) - a design of outdoor (interior) alterations within a studio task (layout plan, detailed plan, section view, explanatory report, etc.; adjustment: an offer for a possible client) - attendance at the course (especially during the outdoor lectures) Examples of topics in the previous years: 1. design of green vegetation as a part of an urbanist project (Berlín, Ottawa, Liberec, Benátky, Manhattan, university dormatory in Harcov) 2. design of green vegetation as a part of specific design briefs for studio tasks (Technical Library in Prague, Šaldovo Square in Liberec, Janáček's Academy of Performing Arts in Brno) 3. separate projects/ KZT study - An uninhabited island (premises for long-term residence - a study with sci-fi features) - Garden and daytime assistance facility for the handicapped (for a specific location; with the following categories: sightless; deaf; physically handicapped) - Music garden - a playground for joy (for a specific location, a sound garden) - A landscape - a garden as a picture of a work of music (a joyful study based on specific music chosen by the student) - We like animals and we are lonesome (a specific location plus a specific target group of users) - My popular area (a theoretical work concerning a specific park, garden, etc., chosen by the student) - A public area where I felt joy (the design of amenities; game elements, etc.)
