Course content
Architecture and urban planning terminology and its use in the daily practice of an architect Language support for study internships abroad

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to achieve a basic level of knowledge of professional terminology in English, which allows the students to understand a professional text and express themselves orally and in writing in grammatically simple understandable sentences. The course covers an overview of the terminology of the area of architectural design, architecture, urban planning, and landscape design, which are required for the practical ability to present and discuss their own architectural plans and ideas orally and in writing, including in the framework of project documentation and presentation of the students' own work. The course is mostly conducted in English with an emphasis on technical terminology related to the profession of an architect in the form of topics, practical and verbal exercises: geometry and shapes, materials and their properties, buildings assignments, types of buildings, a description of building plot and its context, a description of a floor plan, section and façade, construction systems, metal structures, wooden structures, description of the contemporary family house and public building, zoning plan, the relationship of the architect with the client, negotiating with the building authority. Teaching takes place in the form of work with information media, on student projects, and discussions on already completed realizations of architects.
