Course content
An introductory lecture on the current state of architectonic production and the contemporary tendencies. Personal styles. Ad hoc styles. Parallel tendencies - the postmodern revolution opens up opportunities for a number of diverse expressions of styles, benefiting from the attempts to find a meaningful language. The theoreticians Robert Venturi, Aldo Rossi, Colin Rowe, Charles Jencks and their influence on the opening-up of the architectural creation to the influence of the regional, historical and commercial environment. 1950s and 1960s: the late era of Le Corbusier, Japan, India, France. Mies van der Rohe. Oscar Niemeyer, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph, Louis Kahn, Kenzo Tange, Kunio Mayekawa. Concrete as a pnehomenon of new aesthetics. The United Kingdom, New Brutalism. A. and P. Smithons, J. Stirling and others. Continuation; a radical change in 1960s. 1960s: Japanese metabolism and urbanist utopias. Yona Friedman - 3D cities, Archigram. Flexible systems, primary and secondary structures. 1960s: the crisis of functional urbanism and the disintegration of CIAM. Team X. Attempts to overcome the crisis. Sculpturalism. Attempts to form an identical environment. The influence of the book The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch. An educational trip to a major architectonic studio or to an architectonic exhibition.

Learning outcomes
In this seminar, students are acquainted with contemporary architectural plans and realised buildings. Students visit works of contemporary architecture and prepare interpretative presentations, then work with published media - the students acquaint themselves with one or two press interpretations on a given theme, and are guided to confront their own views with the views of the critics and the theorists of architecture. Czech and foreign magazines are source of the critical texts.
To grasp knowledge of current trends in architecture.
