Course content
Postmodern response in the concept of city construction. Abandonment of free-standing development and, in 1970s, the return to the basic spatial archetypes. Leon Krier, the La Villette project, Berlin Tempelhof, Atlantis and others. Biennale in Venetia, Strada Novissima, the manifest of postmodern architecture. New cities in France. Since 1970s, architecture has been developing as the creation of individual buildings, incorporate into an urban context. The theory of contextualism (Colin Rowe). The meaning of the location in the theory of Norberg-Schulz. The reading of a city environment in the theory by Kewin Lynch. Netherlands. The theory of densification; project processes based on the preparation of a ""data landscape"". MVRDV, Rem Koolhaas, West 8. Shipyards in Amsterdam. The role of high-rise buildings. The transformation processes in cities. The changes of the functional and social roles of city districts. Historical cities are protecting their identity. The increasing significance of conservation. The need to re-assess and revitalise the industrial and other buildings for the purposes of the present lifestyle. Prague - Karlín, Holešovice, Smíchov; Brno - Heršpice, Zábrdovice and other districts. The architecture and forms of transport structures in the 20th century and up until now. Airports, highways, bridges, railway stations, ports, etc. An educational tour.

Learning outcomes
The course deepens and develops the ability to think about architecture theoretically and understand it at different levels. Following the previous courses Theory of Architecture 1 and 2, mainly current problems and challenges of architecture are discussed here. Within this framework, the topics of the course change. Teaching here focuses on attentive work with texts, especially in foreign languages, and the ability to connect theoretical questions with specific examples from architectural practice and one's own work. Overview of topics: 1. Digital presentation and representation of architecture 2. Critique of architecture 3. Current theories of the city 4. City and landscape 5. Architecture and landscape 6. Architecture and climate crisis 7. Architecture and globalization
Development of reflection ability and theoretical argumentation to individual architectonic works.
