Course content
The morphological foundations of the architecture and design in the 20th century. Architectonic forms. Structure and form. Revolution brought about by the transition to a skeleton structure. A tectonic wall is no longer a load-bearing structure and becomes a filling. The change of the aesthetic essence of architecture. 5 points of the modern architecture of Le Corbusier. Square-edged forms and rounded forms. The Streamline aesthetics and expressionism in architecture (Mendelsohn, Scharoun, Le Corbusier). Sculptural forms made possible by computer technologies. Automobiles, airplanes, ships, railway engines, fashions, furniture design, advertising creations in relation to architecture. Examples. Continuation: a comaprative study. The inter-war period; the post-war period; 1970s; 1980s and 1990s. The current examples. High-tech aesthetics and the aesthetics of deconstructivism. The ""new morphology"" of F. Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Coop Himmelblau, OMA (R. Koolhaas), P. Eisenman, D. Libeskind and others. New concepts: angular rotations, collisions, off-centre design, coulise, scaling. Label: Neomodern, the second modern, Modern-next Development: New materials and surfaces, metallic environment (zinc, aluminium, stainless steel); in various degrees of perforation and transparency; new visual effects. An educational tour.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on important contemporary thinkers, whose reflections deal with architecture in the wider cultural and social context. Within this context, a variety of issues will be presented of contemporary scientific and philosophical thought that touch architecture; the theory of mind or personal identity issues which are currently addressed across disciplines can be stated as an example. The purpose is to reflect the possibility of architecture on the basis of examples of contemporary thinking. Lectures will be combined with interpretative exercises of theoretical texts.
