Topics overview: Definition of the subject of STATICS. Force as a vector. Compresition of forces acting at one point; the analytical and graphic solutions Static moment of force in relation to a point Reduction of a force to a point Combining forces variously on a plane; the analytical and graphic solutions Couple of forces The geometric centre of a system of parallel forces The centre of gravity of a system of material points The centre of gravity of a cross section; the centre of gravity of a load-bearing element The second moment of a cross section and the modulus of a cross section The radius of inertia of a cross section and the ellipse of inertia

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation, briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Practicum
  • Class attendance - 42 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 42 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of structural mechanics and statics of structures in the range of statically determined planar structures. In the winter semester, operations with forces in the plane, cross-sectional properties and static solutions of statically determined structures in the plane will be discussed.
Knowledge of basic operations with forces in plane and static solution of planar statically determined beams.
