Course content
Topics overview: Truss girders, their degree of freedom and statical determinacy Solution of an axial forces in the bars of a truss girder. The general method of joints; the simplified method of joints; method of sections Normal and shear stress Assessment and design of bent beams Buckling pressure of slender bars Solution of the deflection of the beam Fundamentals of static solution of simple structures using computers

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is, in connection with the course Statics of Structures 1, to acquaint students with the basics of elasticity and strength, with the buckling pressure of slender members and with statically determined planar truss girders.
Design and assessment of planar statically determined solid and truss beams and short and slender columns.
