Course content
Working with SCIA ENGINNER, work procedure for modelling 1D elements (simple beam, beam with overhanging ends, continuous beam, lattice beam, column), modelling of 2D elements (plate, shell, membrane, wall). Entering loads on model elements and the possibility of support. Creating combinations and setting up the calculation. Furthermore, evaluation of results (deformation, internal forces, reactions). Assessments of wooden, steel 1D parts. Modelling of geotechnical structures in software GEO5.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Lecture, Practicum
  • Contacts hours - 14 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the possibilities of modelling and designing load-bearing structures with the use of specialized engineering computational software on PC. Students will become familiar with the finite element method (FEM) - the principles of how this method works and how FEM uses computer software.
After completing the course, the student should be able to model simple parts of constructions and validate their hand calculations, whether it is correct, and possibly optimise their proposal. Instruction in the subject should contribute to the improvement of cooperation between the architect and the static.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of statics of building structures in the range of subjects STA1 and STA2, taught within the bachelor's study at FUA TUL.
