The course Urban Construction 1 (SM1) deals with an explanation of basic concepts, methods and methodologies of urban development (urban planning), development of settlements and its forms (morphogenesis, structural and functional) from prehistoric settlements, with a particular focus on the key period of development of city culture in the European civilization sphere and other major civilization spheres - the Near East, India and Indian subcontinent, the Far East, America and American cultures of North, Central and South America, global present. The lectures are focused on categorical concepts and specific methods and their place in thinking about the city and its construction (humans, space, place, path-motion, architecture, culture, etc.) in a broader civilizational and cultural context and is completed by a summary of the individual basic types of urban public and private space and landscape space.

Interview
The explanations are concentrated on the basic concepts and topics of urban development and method of thinking as one of the important parts of architecture in the broadest sense of the work, from the natural landscape, social economic, cultural civilisation and urban technical points of view. Basic secondary-school knowledge of history is assumed, specifically the knowledge of the history of architecture and the other disciplines of the visual art and their relations to other kinds of art (general knowledge in the music or literature related to the period concerned) and the basic knowledge of philosophy and immediately related disciplines is also assumed. A student must be capable of active participation in the lecture and discussion; he/she must be able to study and interpret the discipline-related literature and prove the ability of applying the knowledge to a specific case - to analyse the development of a selected city, to interpret his/her knowledge in front of colleagues-students and to answer their questions and to prepare a written term paper based on this lecture. It assumed that the student has completed the basic discipline-related lectures (designing structures and smaller urban units as well as the history of architecture and visual art, technologies and processes). Active participation in lectures and ability to respond to stimuli. |
