Course content
Lectures: 1) Overview of the physiology of the cardiovascular system 2) Overview of the pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system 3) Action potential of myocardial cells, excitation production and cardiac conduction system 4) Overview of physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system in relation to surface ECG 5) Basics of arrhythmology - bradycardia 6) Basics of arrhythmology - cardiac arrhythmias - atrial arrhythmias 7) Basics of arrhythmology - cardiac arrhythmias - ventricular arrhythmias 8) Overview of cardiological methods for biomedical engineers 9) Overview of cardiac surgery methods for biomedical engineers 10) Overview of physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system in relation to devices of functional diagnostics (ergometry, echocardiography, SPECT, ...) Practical teaching will take place in the form of comprehensive thematic blocks, in which students will acquire theoretical skills on practical examples. Students independently process conclusions from experiments and conduct their own research activities. Exercises: 1) Principles of ECG, sensing muscle activity of the heart 2) Principles of ECG, sensing muscle activity of the heart 3) ECG measurement by alternative physical principles E.g. using a gyroscope, 3D piezo sensors, vibration sensing 4) ECG measurement by alternative physical principles) 5) Errors in ECG scanning, theoretical analysis, the effect of transient resistance, anatomically inappropriate placement of electrodes 6) Errors in ECG recording, practical measurement 7) Sport-testers, amateur diagnostics of human physiological functions measurement on a commercial device. It is possible to use sport testers in medicine to monitor the health of an athlete. Design and technological design of implantable electronics 8) Practical examples of electronics, 9) Basic measurements on pacemaker electronics, internal signals.
