Learning outcomes
The course provides basic knowledge of English technical terminology. The aim is to practice the ability to read and understand English written text, to sort information and work with it, to obtain learning strategies for self-study and further use of the language in everyday situations and in professional practice. The course is focused on balancing the heterogeneous entry skills of students and creating additional prerequisites for the further development of general and professional communication. It focuses mainly on the practice and development of language resources (with emphasis on grammar and vocabulary) and speech skills (with emphasis on speaking and reading comprehension). Consolidation and deepening of grammatical and lexical resources will take place, among other things, in the form of substitution, transformation or translation exercises from a selected English textbook, with the support of an e-learning environment. Work with professional texts and authentic audio-visual activities will be used for the development of professional communication in general. Students will learn basic English medical terminology in the given topics. Students will understand professional English medical or non-medical texts. The aim of the course is to equip students with competencies in the field of professional language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Test

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - presentations on a selected topic, - individual work and home preparation in the environment of an e-learning course, - written credit test before the exam (min. 60% of correct answers). Exam: - oral exam.
