Course content
Lectures: 1) Categorization of medical devices; diagnostic, therapeutic and medical facilities 2) Risk classes of medical devices and equipment; international directives (EU and CSN directives); fundamentals of electrical safety of medical technology operation, risks in medical facility 3) Human biosignals; biopotential amplifiers, sensing electrodes, recording systems 4) Basic physical principles and properties of temperature sensors, mechanical variables (eg pressure, position, body fluid flow, level, etc.), magnetic variables (Hall probe), UV, IR and ionizing radiation, chemical (pH, blood gases, ISFET), optoelectronic, fiber optic, inductive, capacitive and piezoelectric sensors 5) Measurement of bioelectric activity of the heart (ECG) - electrocardiographs, vector cardiographs 6) Blood pressure measuring instruments (non-invasive and invasive methods of blood pressure measurement) 7) Ultrasound diagnostics and therapy: sonography, ultrasound doppler measurements, ultrasound therapy 8) Measurement of bioelectric muscle activity (EMG), electrotherapeutic and magnetotherapeutic devices 9) Laboratory instruments for the analysis of nanomaterials in biomedical applications 10) Other devices for analysis of heart activity heart rate measurement (cardiotachometer) and phonocardiography, blood flow measurement (dilution methods), extracorporeal circulation 11) Plethysmography - pneumatic, capacitive and photoelectric plethysmographs, measurement of oxygen saturation of blood (pulse oximetry) 12) Instruments for electrostimulation and electrosurgery, intracardiac ECG, implantable electrostimulation means 13) Instruments for endoscopy and miniinvasive surgery 14) Other instruments for measuring the electrical activity of the organism (EEG, ERG, ECoG, ENG, evoked potentials) Exercises: 1) Categorization of medical devices 2) Risk classes of medical devices and equipment; international directives (EU and CSN directives); basics of electrical safety of medical technology operation, risks 3) Sensing of biosignals; biopotential amplifiers 4) Temperature sensors, measuring pressure, position, body fluid flow, UV, IR and ionizing radiation; pH, blood gas, ISFET 5) Electrocardiographs, vector cardiographs

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the overview and categorization of medical devices according to international directives (EU directives) including Czech and international terminology, diagnostic and therapeutic devices or devices and equipment of medical workplaces, electrical safety of medical devices operation.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Practical demonstration of acquired skills

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - elaboration of protocols from exercises. Exam: - written test, - oral exam.
