Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject, conceptual apparatus, multiculturalism and transculturalism, ethnocentrism, cultural shock 2) Specification of verbal and nonverbal communication in multicultural nursing 3) Migration and multicultural society in the Czech Republic, health care system for foreigners 4) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Model of culturally friendly and adapted care; Model Giger and Davidhizar: specifics in the provision of nursing care for patients of Roma and Ukrainian minorities 5) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Specifics of providing nursing care to patients of Christian and Orthodox religion 6) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Specifics of Providing Nursing to Muslim and Jewish Religions 7) Model Giger and Davidhizar: The specifics of providing nursing care to Jehovah's Witnesses; patients of Vietnamese and Chinese minorities and others

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the need for a multicultural approach in the care of individual patient needs, respecting the right to own cultural values, faith and beliefs. The aim of the course is to understand the concepts of ethnicity, culture, spirituality, faith, religion, to identify the basic characteristics of selected ethnic, cultural and religious minorities.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Classified credit: - self-study, - activity in lectures - oral exam (terms, minority).
