Course content
Lectures: 1) Epidemiology of malignant disease; risk factors; classification of tumors by tissue type; TNM system of tumor classification 2) Primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary prevention, their importance for patient prognosis, early warning of malignant disease 3) Diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, biological therapy 4) Chemotherapy: principles of application, main manifestations of side effects, their diagnosis, prevention, treatment, treatment, dietary measures 5) Hormonal therapy, targeted biological therapy and immunotherapy: guiding principles of application, nursing care care for administration, including care for adverse effects of treatment 6) Radiotherapy: main manifestations of side effects (early, late, very late) on individual tissues and organs, their diagnosis, prevention, treatment, treatment, dietary measures Selected cancer and haemato - oncological diseases 8) Selected oncological and haemato-oncological diseases 2 9) Pain management in cancer patients 10) Tertiary care, its organization and services according to the needs of cancer patients (hospitals, hospices, home care) Exercises: 1) The role of the nurse in the screening of malignant neoplasms 2) Nursing process in a patient undergoing radiotherapy 3) Nursing process in a patient with cancer pain 4) Nursing process in the patient in the most common oncological diseases 5) Nursing process in the patient in the most common hematooncological diseases

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical-practical. It informs students about the biological behavior of tumors and about the specificities of cancer. Also about the basic treatment in oncology with all its side effects. Provides information on supportive care, including adequate nutritional support. It emphasizes the specifics of the needs of cancer patients and their families changed in connection with cancer and it aims at effective nursing interventions.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Credit: - 80% attendance at exercises, - self-study. Exam: - written test and oral examination.
