Course content
Lectures: 1) Development of orthopedics, diagnostics and principles of conservative treatment of orthopedic diseases, orthopedic operations, surgery preparation, sterilization, hygienic regime in the operating room, complications of surgical treatment of fractures 2) Congenital malformations in orthopedics; arthrosis, alloplasty in arthrosis of joints; infectious diseases in orthopedics 3) Bone injury; differential diagnosis of back pain, bone tumors 4) Introduction to traumatology; injuries of upper and lower limbs, injuries of spine and spinal cord, classification of spinal injuries 5) Polytrauma, pelvic ring injury, thoracic traumatology Exercises: 1) Specifics of nursing care in orthopedics; nursing care in a patient with osteoarthritis after total endoprosthesis; nursing care in patients after amputation 2) Nursing care in a patient with selected orthopedic diagnoses 3) Nursing care in patients with polytrauma and injuries of upper and lower limbs

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical-practical. It is part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. It characterizes clinical conditions in orthopedics and traumatology in terms of nursing care and needs of patients altered in connection with diseases, disorders and traumas of the locomotor system with an emphasis on prevention. It provides an overview of the specifics of nursing care in patients in orthopedics and traumatology, which is aimed at effectively solving nursing problems of patients.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - written test. Exam: - oral exam.
