Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction, holism, the essence of holistic view of man, holistic theory of disease, stress theory, basics of psychosomatic medicine and burnout syndrome 2) Human needs; Maslow's hierarchy of needs; algorithm for meeting human needs; dynamics of human needs 3) Physiological needs 4) The need for safety and security; the need for love, acceptance, belonging 5) Need for recognition, respect; the need for self-realization; the needs of the dying Exercises: 1) Holism, illness as a difficult life situation 2) Human needs, algorithm of satisfaction of human needs 3) Perception of health and illness by different groups of people 4) Model of Gordon in healthy and sick individual 5) Practical assessment of physiological needs 6) Practical assessment of safety and security needs 7) Practical assessment of the needs of love, acceptance and belonging 8) Practical assessment of the need for recognition and respect; needs of self-realization 9) Basal stimulation, kinesthetic mobilization and assessment of needs for Pesso-Boyden therapy

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical unit. The course Nursing Process and Needs 1-2 enables students to understand the main task of professional nursing practice. It introduces classifications of human needs by various disciplines and authors and focuses on reactions and manifestations of unmet needs in healthy, ill, disabled and dying people. It focuses on practicing individual stages of the nursing process. It enables students to acquire systematic knowledge and skills in the methodology of the nursing process.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Test

Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - passing the test.
