Course content
|
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject, holism, the essence of the holistic view of man, holistic theory of the origin of disease, stress theory, basics of psychosomatic medicine 2) Human needs; Maslow's hierarchy of needs; algorithm for satisfying human needs; dynamics of human needs 3) Physiological needs 4) The need for safety and security; the need for love, acceptance, belonging 5) The need for recognition, respect; the need for self-actualization; the needs of the dying Exercises: 1) Holism, illness as a challenging life situation 2) Perception of health and illness by different groups of people 3) Human needs, algorithm of satisfaction of human needs 4) Gordon's model for healthy and sick individuals 5) Practical assessment of physiological needs 6) Immobilization syndrome - prevention 7) Practical assessment of safety and security needs 8) Practical assessment of needs for recognition and respect, needs for self-actualisation 9) Assessment of needs in terms of Pesso-Boyden therapy

Learning outcomes
|
The course is an essential part of providing nursing care, including emergency care. It enables to understand the main goal of professional nursing practice, ie to ensure and satisfy the life needs of the patient, family and community, to practice the individual stages of the nursing process (methodology of nursing practice). It introduces classifications of human needs, focuses on reactions, manifestations of unmet needs in healthy, sick, disabled and dying.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined examination, Student's performance analysis, Presentation of artistic and creative activities
Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - passing the test.
