Course content
Lectures: 1) General principles of first aid; distribution of first aid; first aid procedure; ensuring the safety of the injured and the rescuer, examining the victim, providing first aid, RZP, ensuring permanent supervision, recording information, transport and ensuring transport; ethical problems in providing first aid 2) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults and children (primary and advanced), indirect cardiac massage, defibrillation, use of AED, artificial respiration, airway management and artificial lung ventilation; circulatory failure; respiratory disorder; emergency resuscitation in special events; drowning; hanging and strangling; electric shock; intoxication; shock, its distribution; rule 5T; bleeding, division of external and internal bleeding, general principles 3) Open wounds, wound splitting, traumatic amputations, special types of wounds, bite, snake bite, insect bite, poisoning, unconscious, disabled with consciousness; elimination methods; thermal injuries; burns; burns; cold damage; injuries to the brain and skull, spinal cord and spine, chest, abdomen, bones and joints; mass injury 4) Consciousness disorders and convulsions: unconsciousness, collapse, syncope, delirium, seizures; respiratory insufficiency: dyspnoea, asphyxia, aspiration, pneumothorax and others; urgent interventions in providing first aid 5) Urgent conditions in internal medicine: stroke, diabetes mellitus, anaphylaxis, cardiology and others Exercises: 1) First aid procedure, patient examination, transport 2) Basic and widespread cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults and children 3) First aid for external and internal bleeding, anti-shock measures 4) First aid for open injuries, amputations, treatment of acute wounds 5) First aid in an intoxicated patient, electric shock, lightning 6) First aid for treatment of burns and cold damage 7) First aid for brain and skull, spinal cord and spine injuries, consciousness disorders and convulsions 8) First aid in non-traumatic conditions (chest pain, high blood pressure, stroke), first aid in respiratory insufficiency 9) First aid for traumatic conditions and other selected conditions (drowning, chemical substance, etc.)

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical and practical. Provides knowledge and skills to provide pre-medical first aid for life-threatening emergencies, including injuries and accidents. Students will learn the procedures and principles of various health-damaging conditions. They will acquire skills in practical training of emergency resuscitation within valid Guidelines. The course also includes knowledge of disaster medicine, emergency care and crisis management.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - oral exam.
