Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to nursing care in psychiatry; the status of psychiatry; psychiatric terminology; therapeutic procedures and psychiatric options; mental health trends and problems; specific problems of working with psychiatric patients; resocialization, psychiatric assessment of the scale; special approaches of nursing care according to social structure of population 2) Schizophrenia, delusional disorders; affective disorders 3) Neurotic disorders; personality disorders 4) Addiction to psychoactive substances, aggressive behavior of patients 5) Organic mental disorders Exercises: 1) Nursing process in a patient with schizophrenia and delusional disorders 2) Nursing process in patients with affective and neurotic disorders 3) Nursing process in a patient with personality disorders 4) Nursing process in a patient with addiction to psychoactive substances 5) Nursing process in a patient with organic mental disorders and a patient with aggressive behavior

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical-practical. It is part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. It acquaints students with the problems of mental health and symptoms of mental disorders in terms of nursing care. It focuses on assessing and diagnosing the needs of patients altered in connection with psychological conditions significantly affecting human health and quality of life, planning, implementing and evaluating psychiatric nursing care with regard to its multidisciplinary aspects in mental health care. It characterizes the specifics of individual care in facilities of various forms of health services in this area.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Oral exam, Student's performance analysis

Credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - self-study. Exam: - oral exam.
