Course content
Lectures: 1) Sources of population exposure; biological effects of ionizing radiation 2) Radiation protection and legislation; principles, concepts and objectives of radiation protection 3) Methods of protection of patients and workers during radiodiagnostic procedures; methods of protection against external radiation, determination of radiation load by calculation 4) Radiation accidents and incidents 5) Basic overview of hazardous chemicals and their effects within potential emergencies in the Czech Republic; decontamination and site intervention 6) Chemical accidents and incidents - gas and vapor leaks 7) Chemical accidents and incidents - liquid leaks Exercises: 1) Principles of radiation and chemical defense - legislation 2) Specifics of rescue work in an emergency in connection with radiation hazards 3) Specifics of rescue work in an emergency in connection with chemical hazards 4) Presentation of case reports from the field of extraordinary events connected with radiation or chemical protection of the population - specification of IRS cooperation

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the basics of radiation and chemical protection, with procedures for individual emergencies. Key documents and recommendations dealing with radiation protection are also discussed.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.
