Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the subject, conceptual apparatus, multiculturalism and transculturalism, ethnocentrism, cultural shock, migration and multicultural society in the Czech Republic, the system of health care for foreigners 2) Specification of verbal and nonverbal communication in transcultural nursing 3) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Model of culturally friendly and adapted care; Model M. Leininger, Model Giger and Davidhizar: specifics in the provision of nursing care to Roma and Ukrainian minorities 4) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Specifics of providing nursing care to patients of Christian and Orthodox religion 5) Model Giger and Davidhizar: Specifics of Providing Nursing to Muslim and Jewish Religions 6) Model Giger and Davidhizar: The specifics of providing nursing care to Jehovah's Witnesses; patients of Vietnamese and Chinese minorities and others Exercises: 1) Nursing process within transcultural nursing 2) Practical application of Leininger model to selected minorities 3) Practical application of the Giger and Davidhizar models to selected minorities

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical and practical. It deals with selected terminology, multicultural diagnostics, basic characteristics and culture of minority groups. It emphasizes the transcultural approach of a nurse in nursing care, allowing to understand different values and beliefs of the patient.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Oral exam

Classified credit: - self-study, - activity in exercises, - oral exam (terms, minority).
