Course content
Lectures: 1) Scientific research and its specifics in non-medical fields, ethics of research work, critical thinking, the concept of evidence-based practice 2) Technique of work with scientific literature, formulation of research problem, research phase, research project in non-medical fields, research methods, determination of research sample 3) Data collection techniques: interview, questionnaire, survey, observation, case report, experiment, study of written texts 4) Quantitative data processing 5) Processing of qualitative data 6) Discussion, conclusions, compilation of research report, dissemination of results, principles for creation of scientific articles, lectures and other communications Exercises: 1) Research project in non-medical fields, work with relevant resources 2) Setting research goals, hypotheses and research questions 3) Research methods, research sample determination, data collection techniques 4) Quantitative data processing 5) Processing of qualitative data 6) Discussion, conclusions, compilation of research report, dissemination of results

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as theoretical and practical. It implies the application of knowledge and skills acquired in other nursing and humanities subjects and a certain level of creativity. It leads students to critical scientific thinking: understanding the need and importance of the scientific approach in nursing practice. It acquaints them with basic steps of the research process, selection of suitable methods, processing and evaluation of results.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test

Classified credit: - 80% participation in exercises, - seminar paper on a given topic with defense, - written test.
